Argumentative essay – uncivil discourse

One of the simplest ways to talk about current events which represent uncivil discourse would be to talk about the Donald Trump tweets. The article from a web news site titled "Donald Trump's most controversial tweets since becoming president" showcase all the negative and careless ideas that he is putting on the internet for the whole world to see. These comments are not how world leaders usually respond to situations and, instead, instill fear and uncertainty into the minds of both the nation and the world. The article outlines some of the most controversial tweets that Trump has tweeted in his first 100 days as President of the United States. The first example is his tweet which read "Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my "wires tapped" in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!" Not only was this in the middle of the night, but there was no solid evidence to prove this claim. Another one of the tweets reads "I have tremendous respect for women and the many roles they serve that are vital to the fabric of our society and our economy" which is very controversial to the claims that he made during his campaign where women were constantly degraded. Many of his comments contradict each other which makes his presidency that much more questionable.
In my opinion, uncivil discourse is extremely harmful. Aspects of uncivil discourse such as hate speech are the very thing that is tearing the country apart, making others think it is okay to hate on others which unravels in a huge chain reaction. It is true that hate speech cannot be completely banned for that would be violating the right to free speech, but it should not be advocated by people such as the President of the United States or people running for that position. If there is any hope for the rebuilding of the nation and solving problems of inequality and race, it is through the advocating of open-mindedness and acceptance among all people. This is what will bring people together, not being uncivil with one another. So, it should not be banned, but it should be largely frowned upon.
