Uncivil Discourse
This topic has been around for a very long time now, and it clearly does not seem that it will cease to exist. It is safe to say that uncivil discourse is occurring every hour of the day all year round. This is also affecting those who fall victims to this kind of behavior, and a lot of individuals suggest that this is all part of our right to practice freedom of speech when in reality it isn't. If you take an individual who is being verbally abused by another individual with death threats, and racial slurs how can others just respond by saying that it isn't wrong at all? It is clearly a problem and there should be consequences for this kind of behavior because there have been a lot of instances where you have these individuals who fall victim to this kind of tragedy and they do not take it very lightly in some cases. To be more specific there have been many times where individuals act out with violence. If jail time or even fees for committing such crime were to be introduced it really wouldn't work out in all honesty. Uncivil discourse will remain behind closed doors and won't be able to be enforced as strictly as it should be.
If we look at the article titled, "Teachers not shying away from divisive political discussion, survey suggests" , by Madeline Will we notice that she includes details on how the past year election in November between Trump and Clinton had a great affect in schools all across the country. Ever since Trump had won the election there has been an increase in the number of bullying incidents that occurred in school which were connected to things such as race, and religion. Tensions have basically risen and school environments have fallen victim to this kind of behavior. As we continue on with Madeline's article we come across a sentence where she states that a teacher at a middle school in New Mexico actually heard a student threaten another fellow student by saying that President Trump would deport the student's father back to where he came from. To be completely real with the situation this is not at all right. The young student who was victimized in this case is just one of many who suffer the same experience. Individuals are basically being targeted for the mere color of their skin, or religion.
To sum everything up uncivil discourse has been affecting the lives of many for who knows how long. It is something that will continue to exist no matter which way the public tries to find means of eliminating it. It has always been around in this country, but the election has caused a spark to come up and individuals true feelings are beginning to erupt as a result of all this.
